General statement and goal of Amidaji

Amidaji International Temple is a religious  organization dedicated to the goal of helping all beings receive simple faith in Amida Buddha. Its mission is to preserve, protect and transmit the authentic Amida  Dharma[1] (orthodox Jodo Shinshu Buddhism). 

Amidaji recognizes the literal existence of Amida Buddha and His Pure Land, thus encouraging all beings to entrust to Him, say His Name in faith and gratitude, and wish to be born there after death. 

Amidaji has a traditional connection with the Hongwanji-ha (Nishi Hongwanji) branch of Jodo Shinshu school, but it functions as an independent Jodo Shinshu Buddhist organization on the basis of its own (present) Constitution and regulations, thus being open to all people interested in the Jodo Shinshu teaching, no matter which branch they belong to. Our connection means that we inherit the essentials of Jodo Shinshu teaching as transmitted within the Nishi Hongwanji branch.  We are grateful to the dedication and efforts made by the many generations of Hongwanji followers and we promise that we’ll continue their work within Amidaji. 

The doctrine of Amidaji and the general guidelines for teaching and understanding Jodo Shinshu Buddhism in our organization are expressed in the book Amida Dharma (click here to read). Its study is an obligation for any follower. If somebody can’t read it, it will be read to him by the priest or one of the Dharma colleagues. Amida Dharma contains the minimum knowledge required for a member of Amidaji. It is the standard of presenting the Jodo Shinshu teaching in our temple. Any text or book which goes against Amida Dharma will not be taken into consideration at Amidaji.
