Amida Buddha does not require from us to become martyrs (video teaching)

This is one of my recent video teachings recorded during a zoom meeting with some of the members of Amidaji. You can see the whole playlist DHARMA TALKS at this link (click here).

Unlike other religions, the Buddha Dharma and Amida Buddha himself do not asks us to be martyrs. This must be well understood as a very important difference from Christianity or Islam. Amida Buddha does NOT suffer like the monotheistic god from the need for attention. He does not threat us to punish our children and grandchildren until the fourth generation if we do not obey him like the so-called god of the monotheists (see the 1st commandment). Our Amida Buddha is a mature, enlightened Person without any trace of jealousy and ego. I've always noticed there is an obsession with blood and drama in monotheistic religions. Too much telenovela for a god with a psychopathic personality disorder.

Dharma talks - the new playlist on my youtube channel

Since 2020 I've had many online discussions on zoom and other platforms with students and readers from all over the world that prefer this kind of interaction. I also started regular meetings with some of my Sangha members where we discuss various topics and answer to questions together.

As I think that some of the talks might be useful and because many readers said they wanted me to appear more often on Youtube, I've decided to create a new playlist - DHARMA TALKS where I will post fragments from my meetings as well as personal reflections. Please excuse my broken English as it's easier for me to write than to speak.

Here is the  link for the playlist:

Please subscribe to my channel and to this playlist so that you can see my new posts. Of course, I will remain available for students and readers who prefer email or Facebook communication.

On my Youtube channel you can find all my audio books, various teachings, recitations, as well as the poems and essays of Gansen John Welch Sensei from Australia.

Please also check the Youtube channels of my student Shaku Joshin  from USA

Biography of Shinran Shonin (audio version)

This is the official biography of Shinran Shonin as accepted by Nishi Hongwanji branch of Jodo Shinshu, and also by our temple, Amidaji. The reason I say so is that this biography is recited aloud on every Hoonko week (Shinran’s Memorial) at Nishi Hongwanji mother temple between January 9th to January 16th.

The title of the biography is “An Illustrated Biography of Shinran, Honganji's Shonin (Honganji Shonin Shinran Denne)” and was compiled by Kakunyo, the 3rd Monshu of Hongwanji temple.

The narrator of this biography is Gansen John Welch, a member, and teacher in Amidaji temple sangha. The edition he uses was translated by Rev Zuio Hisao Inagaki and can be accessed at this link, http://web.mit.edu/stclair/www/horai/denne-index.htm Please click there if you wish to read the whole text together with an introduction, images, and notes.

The three types of prostrations - Amidaji style (video)

There are three types of prostrations presented at Amidaji temple:

1)      Half body prostration from sitting
2)      Half body prostration from standing
3)      Full body prostration from standing

1)      Half body prostration from sitting
We place our hands in gassho on the crown of our head, at the forehead, at the throat level, and at the level of the heart. Then we bow with our head touching the ground and our palms facing upwards. We slightly raise our palms and we keep them there for a few seconds. We do this three times and at the end we bow with our hands in gassho from sitting.

The Nembutsu liturgy of Amidaji temple (final version)

last update and revised
26th August 2019

Although we also have other services, I  decided this will be the main liturgy at Amidaji temple. Unlike other services that you can see in various temples, this one is easier to follow, especially because all parts (including the Three Invitations) are recited, not chanted.
